A 25-YEAR-OLD man was shot dead allegedly by four masked assailants in Telipada locality of Aligarh in the early hours on Friday, police said on Saturday. No arrest has been made yet and efforts are on to identify the culprits by checking available CCTV footage, police said.
The police identified the deceased as Haris Khalid alias Katta. The suspects, who were on two motorcycles, fled after the crime, police said.
The incident happened around 3:15 am on Friday when Haris had stepped out of his residence for Ramzan sehri (early morning meal).
His uncle, Mohammed Khalid, told the police that Haris was standing on a road near his house when the four assailants reached the spot and fired six-seven shots at him. Shoaib, a cousin of the victim, said Haris had no known rivalry with anyone. The family told the police that they suspect “professional killers” were behind the crime.
“We have formed two police teams to arrest the attackers. The area where he (Khalid) was shot had dim light, which made it harder to recognise the assailants,” said Rajesh Singh, the in-charge of the Roravar police station where an FIR has been registered by Khalid.
