Austin: Finland’s Kimi Raikkonen won the United States GP to end his 113-race victory drought as Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton finished third behind Max Verstappen and was made to wait to taste his fifth world title at yesterday’s United States Grand Prix in Austin.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished fourth and the title race goes on to next week in Mexico as Hamilton’s Championship lead does increase by three points nonetheless.

Vettel passed Bottas on final lap to disappoint Hamilton.

“Naturally I thought we would be able to do better but this is the best we were able to do in the end,” Hamilton said after the race.

“We just have to keep working and keep pushing for the next race,” the Briton said.

“After my first stop, 12 seconds was way too far to catch up. I’m not really quite sure how the strategy ended up like that.”

Vettel has to win the remaining three races this season to have a chance of becoming Formula 1 world champion this year.

Hamilton only needs a seventh place in Mexico to become champion next week.
