Governor Pillen Issues Independence Day Proclamation
LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen has issued a proclamation marking Independence Day, in which he asked Nebraskans to take due notice of the federal holiday, display their American flags and reflect on the profound words of the Founding Fathers who declared: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Gov. Pillen added, “By declaring our independence 249 years ago, the United States became the world’s beacon of liberty. Today, we proudly celebrate freedom, and American greatness, with family friends and of course, fireworks. Happy 4th of July!”
Next year, America will celebrate its 250th birthday, the Semiquincentennial.
